Framing the view 2.0 – distortion of reality

My second attempt to create a special sequence focused on the idea of framing the view. Again it amused me how we can cheat reality taking something out of its context.  Adding or rather revealing the unseen layers you create a story, adding the narrative to the frame. A peaceful and serene view suddenly unveils a whole sorry behind it or rather in front of it. By framing the view you automatically decide what you want to show and what to cut out of the picture and cheat the reality.

Pieter de Hooch in his paintings mastered the use of plans and layers. He used them in a deliberate way creating a narrative you follow looking at the painting. Even though he’s mostly showing everyday life, simple daily activities, because of the complexity of the plans they are truly fascinating – dragging you in.

Some more examples of his works.

The Courtyard of a House in Delft
               Kartenspieler                                  Boy Bringing Pomegranates
A Dutch Courtyard                         A Farm Servan in the Backyard
I’m going to play ’Pieter the Hooch’ and use my camera to capture more examples of everyday life coming into the picture.
